On the Bookshelf...and in the DVD player.

After hours of watching the evidence myself, I realized that in today's society, the idea of quality television programs include reality shows with no sufficient substantiality for real life. Programs on VH1, displaying trashy women who vie for the attention of a washed out musician, who consistently wears a bandana and a straw cowboy hat to hide his chronic bad hair. Yeah, I think you know who I'm talking about. (And if you don't, it's Brett Michaels of Rock of Love)
The other day I picked up from the library Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
and I have to say, I've completely surrendered myself to the words of this
great girly novel.
Winifred Watson's best selling novel is about a 40-something governess living in 1930s London. Enter Delysia LaFosse, a glamour girl with a complicated love life, but a killer wardrobe and London flat. When Miss Pettigrew's employment agency sends her to work for Miss LaFosse, she not only meets a new friend, but experiences a life that she's always missed out on.
Some of you also have seen the movie adaptation of the same name, starring Frances McDormand and Amy Adams (one of my fashion icons).
Definitely pick this book up while out on your morning Starbucks run.
Carpe Diem,
Indy

Amy Adams as Delysia, I absolutely adore this head band!

A Trip Continued...

Me (left) and my friend Nora (right) at dinner on our last night in Europe.

On a recent trip to Europe, Munich, Salzburg, Prague, and Vienna to be exact, I fell in love. With the bright lights, the appeal of the city, cobblestone streets with filled with little cafés, the aroma of pastries lingering in the air, and not to mention the history of it all. Here's a few photos to interpret my obsession with Europe more clearly.
 Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna

Belevedere Palace, Vienna.

After a little Shopping, Grabbed an Espresso shot.

Gate To Belvedere Palace in Vienna.

Going Into Town (Prague).

Vienna.

A few friends and I taking a break from all the sight seeing.

Isn't the Prague skyline beautiful?

Prague.

Courtyard of the Prague Palace.

Munich.

Ballroom of Nymphenburg Palace.

Nymphenburg Palace, Germany.

Munich Shopping District.

I also managed to get my grey-toned manicured nails on some beautiful dark brown knee high boots, which I must say went great with my pashminas and knit berets. Although this was a while ago, I just wanted to share with you my experience. By far Prague was my favorite city; so vibrant. My dream school is NYU which also has study abroad program to Prague, so cross our fingers!

p.s. expect some photos like these from my summer in Oakland.

Operation: Summer that's Blog-Worthy

So obviously, if you look at the date of my last entry, a lot has happened since I had last written. OK for one thing, school has just flown by, since I’m completely surrounded a conundrum of papers, explaining the one thing I loathe about the end of the year: finals. As I write to you, a teacup of green tea steeping, its intoxicating steam lingering around me, I befgin to dream about my upcoming summer. As most of you know, I am leaving in two weeks to venture to Oakland, California to stay with my uncle as I attend a modern philosophy class at the University of California at Berkeley. Not only an I stoked for just an undeniably exciting (yet intimidating) first hand experience into college, but also I’m ready to get out of Connecticut. I mean I love my home, but I feel that I need to see new people, things, and places. Oakland, just across the bay from San Francisco, is supposed to be über chill and relaxed, not to mention perfect weather, and the city also has great things to see like Chinatown and Jack London Square! But, there is one setback to my perfect summer. And that setback is: SUMMER READING. Besides the essentials for AP U.S. History and AP Language, I also plan to do some recreational reading. One can find This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald ( a definite classic for a classic girl) and It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini within the pockets of my carry-on luggage at JFK. Another highlight of my summer that I need to make happen is to visit The Mount, the Massachusetts estate that was designed by and lived in by Edith Wharton, my favorite author, and also glamorous inspiration of mine. Well darlings, keep you posted.

Carpe Diem,

Indy
